Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Spread the apple pie filling evenly in a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
Sprinkle cinnamon and scatter nuts (if using) over the filling.
Arrange the halved caramels on top.
Evenly spread the dry cake mix over the caramel-apple layer.
Place butter slices atop the cake mix, covering as much area as possible.
Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
